Naughty Otter was born out of the Gananoque Brewing Company and is managed by a group of four guys in their early 20’s with a deep passion for beer. Robbie, Ryan, Cord, and Donald met at nearby Queen’s University, where they aspired to one day go into the beer business together. Today, that dream is a reality. We hope you enjoy the result.
Ryan graduated from the Queen’s School of Business. He co-founded a landscaping company with Cord that further encouraged his interest in entrepreneurship. While allergies were never an issue, too many close calls with bee hives led Ryan to retire from the industry. After slinging beer part time at a busy Queen’s sports bar for several years, he decided to take his interest in quality beer to the next level. While Ryan may not be the team’s #1 financial analyst, he is a talented taste-tester and prides himself on his fresh ideas.
Cord is a graduate of the Queen’s School of Business, and a CPA, CA candidate. His first foray into entrepreneurship was a landscaping business in high school, but sadly grass allergies kept him from the dream. His interest in the beer industry stemmed from his work in managing one of Queen’s local watering holes. Cord believes in moving heavy things above all else.
Scott moved to Kingston in 1987 and has been an involved Kingstonian for 30 years now. While Scott may not be as freshly-graduated as the rest of his business partners, he sure has the work ethic and energy of a young whippersnapper. Scott is a full time Dentist, and spends his ‘free time’ milling lumber, landscaping, and hand crafting furniture. If you have ever been to the gorgeous Gananoque Brewery, you will quickly be able to see that Scott has brought his passion for woodworking to life in the old Bell Tower. Scott has also been known to sneak in a round of golf here and there, but he promises he is out there ‘selling beer’.
Robbie grew up in Toronto and graduated from Queen’s with degrees in Commerce and Economics. His infatuation with beer first manifested itself in a botched grade 11 chemistry project during which a brand new type of liquor was accidentally “invented.” Six years later, Robbie leapt at the opportunity to enter the brewing industry for real.
Don is also a graduate of the Queen’s School of Business, having grown up in Etobicoke. During many long days and longer nights as an Investment Banking Analyst at CIBC, he stoked his passion for becoming a beer entrepreneur. Outside of hops and barley, Don’s interests include pitch books and fine suits.
